That's awesome, Jennie! The essence of true community.
I'm fortunate to be in very good health and spry enough to live on my own, and I have several friends in Germany who would ease the transition. But in general, moving to a new country (even one with the same language) is a daunting prospect. So every bit of help is very valuable.
Thanks so much! It was hard to bring it together in that way, and while it's hardly good news, it helps me to see it clearly. I'm fortunate to know so many wonderfully supportive women.
What strikes me is the idea of "relative" safety in this case. For example, being in California, where at least the govt here will do its best to resist--even though the success of that is not guaranteed, but it is easier than (as you pointed out) the option of leaving the US altogether
I thought of using the "sword of Damocles" as a metaphor, but then discovered that this is usually connected with the fate of someone in power (like Dionysius), and that ain't us 😏. Anyway I learned something of literary value at least!
I keep thinking of President Snow's "moves... and countermoves" from the Hunger Games. My latest counter-move was to prepare for a long period of not being able to fill my estradiol prescription. Now I'm just waiting for the next round of moves...
I certainly hope you get those pills. I asked my physician in January for a larger prescription in case I had to move to Germany and it would take some time to get settled there. She gave it to me without a word. Now it seems not quite so urgent but the threat is still strong; even in California, if DJ puts out of his beloved EOs to deny federal funding to any hospital that offers gender-affirming care (of any kind) - what will Stanford do?
I love your allusion to Snow! A year ago I did a podcast with two other women (a mother of a transgender girl and a professional consultant/ally) in which I said: "These legislators have the same vindictiveness and determination to impose a rule of cruelty as President Snow." I guess we're aligned!
I am fearful every day for the people I know who are in danger. Many can't move to a safer place or want to stay and resist. Thank you for making these decisions so easy to understand.
Indeed, the potential for masses escaping this is nearly zero; this puts a burden of its own on those who do. I think often of those examples from German history. "You are not required to finish the task, but neither are you allowed to desist from it."
I pray, yes I'm a Christian who is Transgender, that the insanity of denying trans people their human rights and participation in society, line everyone else has be then a senator or a murderer, a family person or an INCL, will some day be the basis of a law suite against Trump and his cronies for deliberately and systematically removing our human rights and subjecting a vulnerable minority to cruel and unusual punishment.
However, I do criticise the radical gender movement that piggy backed on transgender rights to push their dark agenda which has caused the predicted back lash by demanding to much and woke the disinterested masses. Now Trump is using us to further his diabolical (and I use that word advisedly) aims and it won't stop at transgender people, LGBT will be next on the list, unfortunately. So okay that God intervenes for us.
Don't forget that people in the church are not necessarily Christians, they are two distinct entities.
And this is why our Canadian household is urgently putting together a spare bedroom, available on short notice.

Jayna, this is so clear and terrifying. Thank you for putting words to the reality, distilling the cloud of dread to facts.

Oh yes. My ob-gyn and Costco were both super cool with me banking up. :)
